Are you considering migrating to the Czech Republic and start a new life? You are not alone. Many people from across the continent have developed a liking for the Czech Republic to live, invest and retire. Others have gone to the country to advance their education in their world class universities. Whatever your reason for moving to the Czech Republic, it will be necessary and safe if you understood how to do it the right way.
Before you leave for the Czech Republic, you will need to define the purpose of your travel, and the period you intend to stay in that country. This will help you to plan for the visit and to know the required documents to present during the visa application if you need any. Another key requirement is that you should have a valid health insurance cover and have evidence for its existence.
Will you require a Visa?
As is the case with all countries in the European Union and the European Economic Are..

This will help you to plan for the visit and to know the required documents to present during the visa application if you need any. Another key requirement is that you should have a valid health insurance cover and have evidence for its existence.
Will you require a Visa?
As is the case with all countries in the European Union and the European Economic Area, citizens from other EU nations do not need a visa to enter the Czech Republic. They will only need to produce their identification card showing that they are nationals of a country which is a member of the EU or the EEA. However, if these citizens plan on staying in the Czech Republic for more than one month, they will have to register with the Border and Alien Police within the first 30 days of their arrival.
Citizens from the other countries not found in the EU or EEA are required to have a visa when they visit the Czech Republic. The application of the permit is made in the immigrant's country of citizenship. To ensure that the application will be successful the applicant is required to have a clean criminal record, be in good health, and as stated before, should have proof of a health cover. The type of visa you will need depends on the purpose and length of your stay. Many countries have a visa waiver, check with the local Czech Consulate in your country.
Short Stay visa (Schengen Visa) :
If you are planning to stay in the Czech Republic for a brief period usually not more than three months, you may apply for a short stay visa, also considered as the Schengen visa. This visa allows the holder to move freely within the Schengen Member States without requiring a permit. However, when the visa has expired while in one country, you will not be able to use in any other state. It is standard practice that after the expiration of the Schengen visa, the holder is supposed to leave the Schengen region for at least three months before reapplying again.
The short stay visa is usually issued regarding the purpose of your visit. If you are planning to visit multiple Schengen countries, you must specify during the application. The application process takes up to 30 days, meaning then you should start the application well in advance. Among the documents that you will require during the application include official travel documents, proof of sufficient funds to support your stay in Czech, a health insurance cover and proof of accommodation among others.
Long-term visa :
The long term visa is designated for immigrants wishing to stay longer than 90 days in the Czech Republic. The application is supposed to be done at a legal Czech Embassy or Consulate in the applicant's country of citizenship or where they are permanent residents. It is important to note that the documents should be submitted in the Czech language, implying that after you prepare in English, it should be officially translated into Czech.
During the application for the long term visa, you may be required to submit an original travel document, clearly state the purpose of your stay, show proof of enough funds for accommodation and the cost of living in Czech as well as consent from the parents or guardian in case the applicant is a child. These may not be the only required documents; the policies change regularly.
If you are basing your long term stay in education, a letter from a recognized institution in Czech indicating that they have a place for you will be required. In case it is an employment opportunity, you will need evidence of the job offer. Investor immigrants seeking the long term visa should prove that they have sufficient investment funds to invest in the country. A clean criminal record will increase the chances of getting the long term visa.
Nationals from the EU and EEA region have a rather streamlined process of acquiring the long term visa. Besides following the lengthy procedure, they can get it from staying in Czech under the short stay visa for a minimum of five years. Furthermore, the visa can be extended to their family members and registered partners wishing to join them in the Czech Republic.
