Let's take a glance at the test.

What is Pearson Test of English (PTE)?

The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is an internationally recognized English proficiency test accepted by universities, colleges, and governments worldwide. It serves as evidence of your English language skills for university and college admissions or as part of a visa application.

What does PTE measure?

PTE Academic evaluates your real-life English skills required for university studies or living in English-speaking countries. Like other language proficiency tests, it assesses your listening, reading, speaking, and writing abilities—the fundamental skills of the English language.

What is the Test format?

PTE Academic is a computer-based test that measures various language skills in both individual and integrated ways. The test provides results within a maximum of five days.

The test consists of three main parts and lasts approximately three hours, with an optional ten-minute break.

What about the test scores?

In the PTE Academic test, the scores are categorized into overall scores, communicative skills scores, and enabling skills scores. The overall score represents your overall English language proficiency, while the communicative skills scores assess your performance in listening, reading, speaking, and writing. The enabling skills scores evaluate specific language skills such as grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and writing discourse.

The score range for each category is from 10 to 90 points.

For academic purposes, a score of 50 points in each section is generally considered acceptable. However, specific institutions or organizations may have their own score requirements for admission or visa purposes. It's important to check the score requirements of your desired institution or organization.
