¹An unidentified unscored section that does not count toward your score may be included and may appear in any order after the Analytical Writing section. Questions in the unscored section are being tried out either for possible use in future tests or to ensure that scores on new editions of the test are comparable to scores from earlier editions.

²An identified research section that is not scored may be included in place of the unscored section. The research section will always appear at the end of the test. Questions in this section are included for ETS research purposes and will not count toward your score.
The Analytical Writing section will always be first. The Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and unidentified/unscored sections may appear in any order; therefore, you should treat each section as if it counts toward your score.

Retaking the GRE revised General Test::    Tags:GRE|GRE Coaching|GRE Coaching center

  • Candidates can take the GRE revised General Test (computer-based and paper-based) only once every 30 days, and no more than five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period. This applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously.
  • If you take only the paper-based GRE revised General Test, candidates can take it as often as it is offered.

Note: The retaking a test policy will be enforced even if a violation is not immediately identified (e.g., inconsistent registration information). If the violation is identified after registration but before the test administration, the testing appointment will be canceled and test fees will be forfeited. If the violation is identified after test scores have been reported, the invalid scores will be canceled, score recipients will be notified of the cancellation and test fees will be forfeited.

GRE test registration process:

  • You need to create a My GRE Account to register online.
  • You are responsible for bringing valid and acceptable identification when you report to a test center.
  • When registering, the name you use to register — and the spelling of that name — must exactly match the name printed on the identification documents (excluding hyphens, accents and spaces) that you will present at the test center. See The Name You Use When Registering.
  • When scheduling your testing appointment, be sure to allow sufficient time for score reporting so you can meet the admissions deadlines for the schools to which you are applying.
  • Check the fees and read the reschedule and cancellation policies before registering for the test.
  • Not all test centers are open on all dates.
  • You are not allowed to transfer your registration to someone else.
  • As part of your test fee, you may request that scores be sent to up to four graduate programs, business programs or fellowship sponsors. Using the Score Select option for each of your four free score reports, you can decide to send scores from your Most Recent test administration or from all the times you have taken the test in the last five years. If you are taking the computer-based test, you will designate your score recipients on test day. If you are taking the paper-based test, you will designate your score recipients when registering for the test. For more information, see Sending Your Scores.
  • Individuals who register for the GRE revised General Test can send up to four FREE ETS Personal Potential Index (ETS PPI) Evaluation Reports to graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors. For more information, visit the ETS PPI website.
  • You will be given the option to register for the FREE GRE Search Service when you register for a GRE test. Or, you may sign up for the GRE Search Service at any time. For more information, see GRE Search Service.

GRE score reporting:

How to report GRE scores to the universities and colleges from test::

On test day, after completing the test and viewing your unofficial Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores, you will be asked to designate which score recipients you want to receive your General Test scores. If an institution is not listed, ask the test center administrator for the appropriate form to indicate unlisted institutions. Complete the form and turn it in before you leave the test center. The form will not be accepted after you leave the test center. You will have the option to select the Score Select Most Recent option or Score Select All option for up to four institutions for free. You also can choose not to send any scores at that time.

Ordering Additional Score Reports (ASRs):

Additional score reporting can be ordered for a fee of US $25 per score report.  Candidates can order scores through online, phone, fax or mail. When ordering online, you have the most options for choosing which scores to send – you can select to send scores from your Most Recent, All or Any specific test administration of the General Test and or Subject test.
